FINE ART BRONZE FOUNDRY TECHNIQUES TAUGHT BY PROFESSIONAL FOUNDERS
 

WELDING/FABRICATION

Instructors: Douglas Susack and Alex Angio - Staff welders New Foundry New York Metal Finishing Department.


This workshop will cover various welding techniques: torch cutting, tig arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding, stick arc welding, and silver soldering. Students will observe and practice all techniques under the close supervision of professional certified welders. Flame control, bead control and penetration are covered during instruction and demonstration. Proper use and maintaince of equipment will be stressed as well as safety.

This is a perfect workshop for those who already have a utilitarian project in mind (such as a furniture project) or would like to learn to weld while fabricating a sculpture. The class will visit a neighborhood junk yard and collect metal for their projects. A slide show of selected sculptors and artisans who apply welding skills to execute their work will be shown . Project planning through drawing will be covered. The class will also explore patination and other color techniques, fabrication skills such as bending, drilling, and cutting while completing their own projects.
